4 Beautifully Juxtaposed Buildings

Old vs. new, modern vs. classic, Lady Gaga vs. Billie Holiday. Juxtaposition is everywhere, whether it’s in music, film, food, or architecture. When you visit a city for the first time it’s common to see a shiny modern building next to a century-old church, or a decades-old monument next to a brand new landmark.

Take probably the most famous example of juxtaposed architecture, The Louvre in Paris. The most famous museum in the world dates back to the 17th century, and the baroque architecture of the original building juxtaposes sharply against the modern aesthetic of I.M. Pei’s glass pyramids. Attendance at the museum has doubled since the pyramid’s completion in 2002, which got us wondering about other examples of juxtaposition in architecture, and its impact on those buildings. Here are our top picks – two are in Toronto: Continue reading

E Condos Progress at Yonge and Eglinton

If you haven’t been to our new corner in a few months, expect some big changes next time you head to Yonge and Eglinton. Our demolition is complete and the corner that was once a low-rise plaza is now our home, and we’re just getting started!

We currently are at the boring stage of the project, and no, we’re not referring to the least exciting stage. The boring machine is digging down and removing the perimeter basement walls of the demolished buildings. This stage of work is a slow process, and we’ve worked hard to develop engineered procedures that will ensure that we do not to affect the structural integrity of the adjacent buildings.

Although it’s a slow process, we’re progressing every day and this stage looks to be moving ahead on schedule as of now. If all goes to plan, we look to complete this work at within the next couple of weeks. photo 04

We know you’ve heard the buzz about the demolition happening at Yonge and Eglinton, but now you can see exactly what’s going on! Our amazing construction staff has been working hard to clean up one of Toronto’s most iconic corners and transform it into what will soon be the finished product of E Condos.

With such great weather, the crew has been able to demolish the grounds into a nice, flat surface and keep the whole area nearly spotless. As you can see in the photo above, there’s nearly no excess dirt on the sidewalks in front of our site.

With demolition continuing to progress on schedule, the process is slated to be complete by the end of July. Once this process is complete, the crew will start digging the hole and beginning the process of creating the parking garage.
