To celebrate the first official day of spring we decided to hit up Yorkville’s newest shops and boutiques. The fact that it was also Macaron Day in Toronto was not lost on us – we definitely stopped by MoRoCo Chocolate and the Yorkville Espresso Bar for our free macarons! Even though it was not a bright spring morning – in fact it was cold, dreary and wet – we still had a good time checking out Yorkville’s newest residents.
We started off the day with a visit to Loding, which opened up about a month ago on Avenue Road. Loding is based out of Paris, France and it specializes in leather shoes and some high-end clothing for men. What’s interesting about Loding is that they believe in one price for each article, which means all shoes cost the same and all ties cost the same. They also don’t have sales or promotions which makes it easy for shoppers to come in and get what they want, when they want it.
Fun fact: the Yorkville location is owned by Yannick Bigourdan, who also owns Nota Bene Restaurant and Carbon Bar.
We headed over to the much-talked about Suitsupply, the Dutch menswear shop. You’re probably familiar with the brand because they have many shops all around the world but this is their first in Canada. If you’re on the hunt for a good suit, then Mr. Suitsupply is your shop. They also sell plenty of casual clothing, bags and shoes.
We ended the trip at ça va de soi , the Montreal knitwear boutique. We were greeted by the nicest and most well-informed sales associate ever. Emily explained to us how their clothing is made, from the wool being spun in Italy to then being manufactured in Hong Kong, they work with the highest quality producers in the world. What we love most about ça va de soi is that they make a real effort in being eco conscious – kudos to them!
According to Emily, chunky knits and pastels are going to be big this spring. There’s also plenty of skirts and dresses to choose from.
Before we forget, ça va de soi will also be taking part in a Textile Museum of Canada Series, Conscious Consumption on April 3 and 17, where interested individuals will have the chance to learn more about what they’re wearing when they decide to go eco-conscious.
