Home decor is one of our favourite things to write about. How your home is decorated speaks volumes about your personality, style and living habits. For example, if you like antiques then some may think you’re a little more traditional. Sleek and clean designs screams modernity. We’re not picky, we like it all as long as it looks good. For those who are just starting to decorate their homes, or planning their potential new home, then starting off with the neutrals might be your best bet and you can go either modern or traditional with your scheme.

Here are some tips you should look into if you’re thinking of going neutral:

  • Clean white walls are perfectly okay if you’re going with the neutral theme, but we prefer shades of warm gray, the colours of a creamy latte, and the lighter shades of beige. There really is a lot out there beyond the classic white walls so experiment with swatches and paint chips before you take the plunge.
  • If you decide to go with something like bluish-gray or slightly earthy-green, then you should look towards woven rugs and and wooden accents to complement the more ‘natural’ theme.
  • Neutral walls need neutral-coloured furniture. The two shouldn’t match in colour but rather complement one another, think creamy linen on the couches to flow with the green-hued walls.
  • At the change of each season, simply change up your throw pillows but keep them in tune with the neutral theme. Chocolate browns, deep ocean blues and even dark mustard yellows go so well with neutral colours.

  • Add a few touches of black, because it will add some contrast to the room.
  • If you want to add more colour to your room, do it in the form of artwork. This will also liven up the room!
  • We think white tables go perfectly with all neutral shades and also make the room pop. Think: nice, rustic white dining room table as opposed to the usual walnuts and oak.
