While there are technically a few more weeks left of summer Toronto, the Labour Day long weekend is it’s unofficial send-off. There is a whole host of ways to bid the summer farewell ranging from festivals that celebrate food & art, to carnivals and comic books, here are some of the best ways to celebrate, as we near the Autumn equinox:
The Canadian National Exhibition:
Take in the midway, carnival games and wild foods at the 138th annual CNE. Two of the biggest highlights of the final days at the Ex include the Canadian International Air Show which is the longest running aviation display in North America along with the Labour Day Parade that concludes its march at Princess Gates.
Fan Expo Canada:
Fan Expo kicks off on August 31st and runs throughout the Labour Day weekend. It is the largest Comics, Sci-fi, Horror, Anime, and Gaming event in Canada and the third largest Pop Culture event in North America.
Hot & Spicy Food Festival:
Kick up the heat at the 20th-anniversary edition of Hot & Spicy Food Festival. Taking place at Harbour Front Centre this event showcases Canadian celebrity chefs, a curated food market, and a ChiliKids cooking competition, all paired with sizzling jazz. The festival runs from Friday, September 1 through to September 4, 2017.
Buskerfest at Woodbine Park:
Four days of non-stop fun in support of Epilepsy Toronto featuring circus artistry, music, magic and mime along comedians, acrobats, clowns and much more. This fundraiser features one-of-a-kind entertainment and fun for the entire family. Buskerfest runs from September 1st to the 4th.
Downsview Park Ribfest:
North York’s largest Ribfest Festival takes place September 1st – 4th, 2017 at Downsview Park. The event features exciting live entertainment, a midway and kids zone, hot air balloon rides and of course BBQ ribs along with a variety of festival food trucks.
Artfest Toronto at the Distillery:
Artfest Toronto is an outdoor arts and crafts show set throughout the cobblestone lanes of the historic Distillery District. Artfest will feature paintings, photography, sculptures, artisan crafts and live music from some of Canada’s top artists. This festival also offers something for everyone in the family with an Artfest kids component as well. The event takes place all weekend long.
