Incredible Treehouses That Bring Out Our Inner-Child

September 5th, 2014

Do you remember the story of the Swiss Family Robinson? How they were stranded on an island after they were shipwrecked in the East Indies? Well, we loved the film adaptation of the book because the treehouse they made was so cool. It was definitely far more impressive than the ones we had as children! Over the years, creative individuals have sought out to create super impressive treehouses, here are some of the ones we’d live in:

Tree House Lodge, Costa Rica

costarica treehouseAhh Costa Rica – one of our favourite vacation spots in the world and home to the Tree House Lodge. Located right on the beachfront, the treehouse at the Lodge is beautiful and eco-friendly: it’s made from fallen trees, has solar heating and is built around the trunk of a rare Sangrillo tree. There is a fully equipped bamboo-walled shower and an elevated master bedroom. Way better than the Robinson’s treehouse, that’s for sure!

The HemLoft Tree House, Canada

Joel Allen, the man and talent behind this beautiful treehouse simply wanted to build something “cool” and so he retired at the age of 26 (!!!) and became a carpenter. HemLoft’s home was originally in the Kadenwood Forest but moved to Callaghan Valley in 2013. The best part about HemLoft  was that it was in a secret location for much of its first two years, generating a lot of buzz and interest on social media during that time. We love secret places!

Tetsu Teahouse, Japan

We love Japanese architecture and how minimalism plays such an important role in the design and structure of their buildings. This treehouse plays on the appeal of minimalism on the interior of the treehouse, whereas the exterior is a little more fantastical. There’s sliding wooden doors, and a hatch to enter from. If you’re thinking of living here, you’re fresh out of luck – its home is the Kiyoharu Shirakaba Museum!

Chateau de Monbazillac tree house, France

A luxurious tree house in the south of France? Now that’s what we’re talkin’ about! Chateau de Monbazillac tree house is located on the edge of a forest, overlooking a beautiful park, and the castle of Biron. Designed to look like a castle too, guests truly will feel as if they’re in a fairy tale. It is perfect for a romantic getaway, as the Chateau de Monbazillac houses two people (and breakfast is included!) for only about 225 Euros a night!
We’d love to see pictures of your childhood treehouses, share them with us on Twitter!
